Sedation
For people who have been putting it off
Goose Creek Dental Clinic is a moderate sedation facility licensed by the State of Wyoming Board of Dental Examiners, and Dr. Raney is board certified to administer it.
The three levels
- Nitrous oxide
- Laughing gas, through a small nose piece. You are awake and talking, it wears off in minutes, and you drive yourself home.
- Oral sedation
- A tablet before the appointment. You stay conscious but drowsy, and you remember little of it afterwards. Somebody drives you.
- IV moderate sedation
- Given through a line and adjusted through the appointment, which is what makes long surgery possible in one sitting. This is the level that needs a state licence.
Which one you get depends on your health and on how bad the anxiety is. Dr. Raney decides that with you at the consultation, not on the day.
What the day looks like
You arrive with somebody who can drive you home, unless it is nitrous. The sedation is started before anything else happens. Long treatment — a full arch, several extractions, a graft — is done in one sitting rather than spread across four appointments you would have to talk yourself into four times.
Afterwards most people remember very little of it, which is the point.

Book the consultation and say on the phone that sedation is the reason. Nobody will try to talk you out of needing it.
