Teeth that stay where you put them
An implant is a titanium root that fuses to your jawbone. What goes on top of it depends on how many teeth you have left.
The three ways it is done
- Single implant
- A titanium root is placed in the jaw and a crown goes on top. It is cleaned and flossed like the tooth it replaces, and the teeth either side of it are left alone.
- Snap-in denture
- Two to four implants per arch, each with an attachment the denture clicks onto. It comes out for cleaning, stays put for a steak, and gives roughly twice the chewing strength of a denture that rests on the gum.
- All-on-X full arch
- Four to six implants and a fixed set of teeth fitted the same day. You come in with a mouth that has stopped working and you go home eating. The final teeth are fitted a few months later, once the implants have fused to the bone.
What the first appointment costs
Nothing. The implant consultation is free, and you leave it knowing which of the three above applies to you, how long it takes, and the figure. Nobody is talked into a full arch who needs one tooth.
